Knitting a Sweater- Decisions Part One

Now you should be working on all those unfinished projects to get them closer to being done, or completely done, before November first. While you are knitting away, take some time to think.

Same project, different colors. All picked by the recipients. It’s important to know the recipient’s preference before you make them the sweater.

Same project, different colors. All picked by the recipients. It’s important to know the recipient’s preference before you make them the sweater.

The first step for making a decision on what to make is to think about the people in your life. Do any of them need a sweater? Would appreciate the sweater? Maybe you haven’t made yourself a sweater in….. awhile?

Decision One: WHO are you knitting for?

Next you need to think about this person. If it’s someone else be sure you are truly thinking of them for this, or it won’t work, leading this person to potentially being deemed unknitworthy. Sometimes the issue isn’t the recipient, but the giver (just sayin’).

What does this person like? What’s their style? What do they not like? What do you see them wearing/not wearing in their everyday life? What colors do they like? Or hate? Or not wear ever?

If this is not going to be a surprise gift, talk to the recipient if you are truly stuck. It can be as simple as asking them “cardigan or pullover”? Or “what color”?

All of these things need to be taken into consideration before moving on to the next step in the process of Nakniswemo Prep. Write them down if you need to, mom brain is real y’all, and if I don’t write stuff down the best I can hope for is remembering that I thought about it but not what I actually thought or decided.
